Leap of Faith. And the choices we make
18th April 2021
We have all come across a situation (probably multiple times) when our gut has poked us to take a decision that made no sense to our brain.
Taking a leap of faith!
If we look up for the definition of this phrase, it goes like ‘willingness to do something based largely or entirely on one’s faith that it will work, despite having little or no evidence or assurance thereof’. A belief in something that is intangible of being proven.
When you search leap of faith in Google images, you will see plethora of images where a man has jumped off a cliff towards another and is in mid-air. Probably that’s the best metaphor which can depict what it is like to take a leap of faith. Jumping off a cliff. You may land at the other end, or fall down into the abyss.
Many a times we get a gut feeling about something, but we try to silence it because of the fear. Fear, an emotion so dominant that majority of the times all our decisions are driven by it, probably because we have too much at stake. If we don’t make it at the other end, we have too much to lose.
What makes taking this decision still worth it?
We have all come across stories of people who took an impulsive decision based on their gut feeling and ended up in a much better place. Quitting jobs overnight, spontaneous road trips, travelling half the globe for love, asking out a random person, all of them are full of hope. Stories that restore your faith in following your heart. In the end, it is all about the choices we make.
God places all the good things in life at the other side of terror, at the other side of maximum fear
-Will Smith
If the universe is hinting at something, it is foolish to be ignorant about it. We keep looking for sense and sanity, but for all you know, life makes more sense in vanity. Sometimes insane is the sane you are looking for. We all have to take risks to grow and be a better version of ourselves. And risks always come coupled with possibility of landing at the other cliff and falling into the abyss, together. Risks always come with the possibility of exponential growth and infinite fear.
I don’t know if I’m a person who can put things at risk and take a leap of faith. But I’ve come to a point where uncertainty doesn’t scare me anymore. For whatever is worth it, hope will always take you towards peace in life.

PS: If you have ever taken any decision based on faith, do drop me a message and tell me about the time when you jumped in with both feet and hoped for the best. A decision that turned out to be good for you.
