Turning Twenty-Nine!

16th Oct, 2023.

I started writing this blog 3 years ago. Back then, I had a list of things that I wanted to do/complete before I turned 30. As I turn 29 today, I admit honestly, that I haven’t done even half of them. Life has taken such unexpected twist and turns that better things fell in place. So, I guess it’s okay if life does not go according to your plan.

Everything has changed, and yet, I am more me than I’ve ever been.

Since the past one month, I have been trying to put the following 29 learnings together that I have gained through my experiences in life. These have had a long-lasting impact on my life and the way I think. I hope some of them help you too.

  1. Don’t try to control things which are out of your control. Focus on yourself and do your part. Leave the rest.
  2. The grass is always greener on your side. You can’t see it till you go to the other side.
  3. Your internal monologue is very underrated. It practically influences your entire life. Be mindful about how you talk to yourself.
  4. Take deep breaths (This one is the clear winner).
  5. Don’t hesitate to do something because of the time it takes.
  6. Be your own safety net to fall back on. When you become your own source of happiness and comfort, it lifts a lot of pressure from your relationships.
  7. Spread love. Trust me it comes back in many ways.
  8. I have come to understand listening is a very rare quality. Listen to others when they’re talking. Listen to hear them out. Not to react.
  9. Spend time alone. It helps you filter the noise in your life.
  10. Timing plays an immense role in our lives. Right things will never work out at a wrong time.
  11. Be grateful towards your parents. In their capacity, they did the best they could for you.
  12. Love that sways your feet off the ground, love that plays music in the background every time you see that person, love that makes no sense to your logical mind, that love does exist.
  13. Sometimes you can have all the right intentions and actions to save a relationship in your life, but you still can’t. And that’s okay. Let go.
  14. Eat more ice-cream. You can take my word on this one (365 times a year would be ideal).
  15. “Remember. Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.” – Andy Dufresne, The Shawshank Redemption.
  16. Don’t let fear guide your choices.
  17. Everyone has an internal environment influenced by many things. You don’t need to have a reaction towards everything that is happening around you. Some things are meant to be observed as a bystander.
  18. Less is more.
  19. Never let the situation get the better of you. Be above it. Point 4 will help you.
  20. Patience and being calm are skills that can be developed with practice.
  21. “As long as you live, keep learning how to live” – Seneca.
  22. You will be good at whatever you give your time to. The choice is always in your hand.
  23. Nothing can replace a good night sleep.
  24. Let people be themselves when they come to you. Don’t put your own scars and expectations on them. When you welcome them in a judgement-free environment, they open completely under your shade.
  25. Be kind. Help others.
  26. Forgive yourself for the mistakes that you did. You’re now better than that.
  27. Love your family and friends a little more everyday. And then love even more.
  28. Begin again.
  29. Solace will always come with samay (time).

PS: You are where you are supposed to be.
